October 6th, 2007 by rimonabant1Acomplia (Rimonabant) is is an oral prescription medication to treat obesity. It woks on the principle of blocking the CB-1 receptors situated in the Endo-cannabinoid system. Consumption of Acomplia primarily blocks the functioning of these receptors, resulting in a decrease of your normal appetite. A reduced appetite means that you would eat less, and in turn loose weight.
The diet pill Acomplia (rimonabant) is developed by Sanofi-Aventis. Acomplia has been eagerly awaited for by people with weight problems and obesity around the world.
Acomplia is different from most other weight loss pills available in the market today in the sense that it does not act on any of the known weight gain factors but uses a totally different approach for weight loss. Acomplia acts on the Endocannabinoid system in the brain.
Acomplia attacks and reduces a person’s urge or craving to eat more. Acomplia has the active ingredient Rimonabant which works directly on the Endocannabinoid system. This system affects energy balance, glucose and lipid metabolism in addition to weight in the human body. Rimonabant blocks certain receptors in this system known as cannabinoid receptors and thereby creates a feeling of false fullness in the person on Acomplia. As a result the person will eat less. When used in conjunction with a calorie reduced diet and regular exercise, Acomplia will lead to significant weight loss in obese patients.
There is some indication that rimonabant Accomplia may help patients quit smoking, as well as assist in preventing weight gain that frequently accompanies successful smoking cessation. While studies are ongoing, initial results are favorable toward rimonabant, with subjects taking rimonabant Accomplia being able to quit at a statistically higher rate than subjects taking a placebo. Nonetheless, the FDA has suggested that on the current studies it does not currently intend to approve rimonabant Accomplia for this use.
